Easy Self-Care Activities for Any Mom

If you are looking to improve your self-care, there are quite a few activities you can try. While the list of options is endless, here are some recommended activities to get you started with proper”mom”  self-care.

Self-care is an important part of a woman’s well-being. It is important to feel nourished and whole, especially when you have the job of taking care of others. According to healthywomen.org, 78% of women put off their own healthcare because they are too busy taking care of others.

When we take care of ourselves, we are better able to serve others and be present. When we neglect this, we are often resentful and angry.

So let’s put on our own oxygen mask first today, mama. Your family will thank you for it.

Are you looking to improve your self-care?

In order to practice proper self-care, you can try one of the activities listed below. There are so many possibilities for you to take care of yourself this week.

#1 Treat Yourself

What do you like? Do you want a piece of chocolate midday? Keep some in the cupboard.

Do you love a certain dinner or have you been eyeing a new dress for a while?

Sometimes that little treat can be the pick me up we need to keep moving on with our day.

If you are feeling tired and overwhelmed today, go ahead and treat yourself! You are worthy and deserve to be spoiled.

#2 Exercise is Key

Exercise is not only good for your health, but it is also a great way to relieve stress and take your mind off of your anxieties. Exercise helps release endorphins that actually make you feel happier.

Here are some great forms of exercise for self-care:

  • walking
  • dancing
  • yoga
  • Barr
  • hiking

Try to find exercises you enjoy, but can also do alone for some peace and solitude.

#3 Try Something Fun or Creative

Using creativity is also a great, easy form of self-care. This may not seem like self-care if your kids decide to paint with you and make a huge mess, but if you can find a few moments to yourself where you can release creativity again, give it a try.

Do you like to paint, draw, or create graphic art? Adult coloring books are also a great option to relieve stress.

Perhaps you like crafting or baking. I personally like writing and feel invigorated after writing for a while.

Just because you are an adult and taking care of others, doesn’t mean you can find joy and fulfillment in your old hobbies.

So get out those paints or whip up a new recipe tonight.  Find your inner-creative and light that spark again. You can also help your family learn some of your creative hobbies with you.

#4 Find a Good Book

This is definitely my favorite form of self-care. If you are a person that immediately looks at your phone when you wake up, try reading a positive book instead and jot down how you feel after. If you start your day in a calm relaxing way, you will set the tone for the rest of the day.

I enjoy personal development books, but also love a good novel from time to time. Try looking for some books at your local library or buy a few on Kindle to have on-hand for when you get a chance to read.

I also love taking my kids to the park and using some of that time as my reading time. My kids are six and eight, so they are okay to play without me running after them now.

#5 At-Home Spa

If you can’t make it to a spa or don’t have the money, why not make your own spa treatment at home? There are so many great options and most will take under 20 minutes.

Some of my favorite things to do at home and help me relax are as follows:

  • hot bubble bath
  • facial mask
  • paint my nails
  • scented lotion
  • scented body wash
  • light a candle

Even though you are at home, these things can prove to be very relaxing. Just take a break and take some time for yourself.
